Vicky, pictured here, was abducted by the LordÕs Resistance Army. She witnessed the rape of her mother, the killing of her father and was later raped herself. Over some time Vicky was able to escape from the rebels and find her way to freedom. She now is safe in a fenced-in, secured ministry named World Missions, located on the border of Sudan and Uganda. The war in Northern Uganda began in 1986 between the LordÕs Resistance Army (LRA) and the Ugandan PeopleÕs Defense Forces (UPDF). The LRA has reigned terror and carnage on Northern Uganda and Southern Sudan ever since. The rebels commonly abduct children to fuel their personnel needs and quickly turn them into soldiers, porters and sexual slaves. The ongoing war has significantly damaged the region and has left an ongoing burden on the local population. Nimule, Magwi County, Sudan, Africa. December 2005 © Stephen Blake Farrington
