Africa, Sudan, Magwi County, Nimule, Caught In Between, Northern Uganda/Southern Sudan - The young boy pictured here was abducted by the Lord's Resistance Army and held for one day before his escape. During the attack of his village he witness the LRA kill his mother. While in custody of the LRA he also saw many beheadings upon other children. Thousands of children have been abducted, attacked, witnessed the killing of their families, raped, mauled, became soldiers, porters and sex slaves for the LRA. The war in Northern Uganda began in 1986 between the Lord's Resistance Army and the Ugandan People's Defense Forces (UPDF). The LRA has reigned terror and carnage on Northern Uganda and Southern Sudan ever since. The rebels commonly abduct children to fuel their personnel needs and quickly turn them into soldiers, porters and sexual slaves. The ongoing war has significantly damaged the region and has left an ongoing burden on the local population. December 2005 © Stephen Blake Farrington
