David, pictured here, was maimed by a land mine in 1995. He now repairs shoes near the Unyama Internally Displaced PeopleÕs (IDPs) camp. The war in Northern Uganda began in 1986 between the LordÕs Resistance Army (LRA) and the Ugandan PeopleÕs Defense Forces (UPDF). The LRA has reigned terror and carnage on Northern Uganda and Southern Sudan ever since. The rebels commonly abduct children to fuel their personnel needs and quickly turn them into soldiers, porters and sexual slaves. The ongoing war has significantly damaged the region and has left an ongoing burden on the local population. Unyama (off Kitgum Road North) Gulu District, Uganda, Africa.
